Clare Connor CBE
Chair of International Cricket Council committee and former England cricket captain

Clare Connor CBE spent more than a decade playing for the England women’s cricket team, becoming captain in 2000, leading the team to the semi-finals of the World Cup, and finishing her six-year spell at the helm by achieving the goal that arguably all England captains aspire to: beating the Australians in an Ashes series – their first triumph in 42 years. Women’s cricket is at an exciting stage, but she argues that gender is irrelevant: ‘All that matters is understanding your people.’

After retiring from professional sport with more than 100 international caps to her name, Clare became Head of Women’s cricket at the England Cricket Board. Clare is also the first female member of the International Cricket Council committee, sits on the board of Sport England, regularly commentates for Channel 4 and the BBC, and writes for The Observer.

To stay at the top, Clare believes you need to know how you got there, then reset your vision, work out a detailed road map and ensure each team member accepts the part they play in the whole. She is adept at communicating this message to audiences.
